ToS - Best Friends OLD

Genis rummaged through his old things. "Oh!" Genis gasped as his hand touched a small rubber thing, and he pulled out his first kendama.

Genis walked into the classroom, he was the teacher's assistant, although the teacher was retiring in a couple years, and his sister was going to take over. At least, that's what she said.

"Genis!" A young boy with a mess of brown hair waved, patting the seat next to him. Genis grinned and walked over.

"Did'cha do your homework, Lloyd?" He asked.

"Yeah, of course!" Lloyd glared at the young boy.

"...Uh-huh." Genis smirked.

"I did, really!" Lloyd glared.

Colette turned around from her seat in front of them, "He really did, Genis! He was over at my house at the time! He kept shouting 'argh this is im... im...' and then trailing off."

Lloyd glared at Colette, "Too much info!" Lloyd said, shaking his head.

"O-oh! I... I'm sorry!" Colette blushed.

"It's 'kay Colette!" Genis grinned.

The teacher coughed. "It's time to start class."

The trio groaned and turned face front.

Later, at recess...

"Look out!" A boy shouted and the ping pong ball hit Genis right in the cheek.

"Ah!" Colette ran over.

"I'm really sorry, I didn't expect to just... BREAK like that..." The boy ran over. "Are you okay" The boy shot a worried glance at the brunette who was staring, with a weird look on his face.

"I'm fine!" Genis rubbed his cheek. "Really, it didn't hurt that much."

"It's a little scratched up... Here!" Colette gave him a band-aid after taking out her first aid kit.

Genis laughed, "Colette! I'm fine, but thanks!" Genis placed the band-aid on his cheek.

Lloyd seemed to be thinking about something, and wandered off, to talk to Raine.

Genis didn't notice, and continued talking to Colette and the boy.

After school was over...

"Hey, Lloyd!" Genis ran over to his friend.

"Ah... Er... Um... H-hey!" Lloyd mumbled.

"What's wrong?"

"Uh... N-nothing. I.... I have detention today, so your sister said she'd stay back today... So just head on home!" Lloyd nodded rapidly.

"...Uh... Okay..." Genis walked off, wondering if he had done his homework wrong, or if he was just worried Raine would hit him.

Later, at the Sage House...

"Raine, what took you so long?" Genis ran over.

"Oh, nothing." Raine laughed. "You're still up?"

"...I made sure to save you some food."

"Thank you, Genis!" Raine smiled.

The next day...

Genis walked into the building, but Lloyd was waiting outside the classroom for him. He never did that. "Lloyd?" Genis asked.

"Hey, school's cancelled... I thought I should let you know." Lloyd walked over.

"Uh... Raine didn't tell me..." Genis stared at his friend.

"Um..." Lloyd had a pensive look on his face, "Wait outside for a bit, I'll find her."

"Uh... Okay..." Genis thought something was up, but didn't know what it was.

He waited outside, noticing a bunch of kids playing together, and went to join them as he waited.

After a little while, Lloyd shouted his name. Genis jumped in surprise, and ran inside. Then, he gasped as he saw balloons everywhere.

"Happy birthday!" Colette grinned.

"Buh... birth... Oh!" Genis gasped, barely able to believe he had forgotten his own birthday.

Colette held up a cake. "I baked you a cake with Grandmother's help!" She grinned.

"Th-thank you!" Genis grinned,  and began to walk over, but was stopped by Lloyd, who quickly shoved a parcel into his arms.

"Huh?" He asked.

"O-open it!" Lloyd smiled a little.

"...Okay!" Genis looked down at the parcel, and took off the wrapping to find a box. He then opened the box... and gasped. "A wooden kendama?! Lloyd..."

"I made it, but your sister bought the ball for me." Lloyd grinned.

"Lloyd, thanks! I've wanted one for ages..." Genis grinned back, and hugged his friend. "But you didn't have to get me anything..."

"Of course I did! We're best friends, right?" Lloyd said.

"Heheh, yeah!" Genis nodded.

Genis smiled at the memory, and jumped when he heard Lloyd's voice. "Genis! We're almost there!"

"R-right!" Genis smiled and walked faster.

Lloyd would always be his best friend, especially after recent events.
